- COMPOSITION:
Synephrin tartrate 60 mg/1 ml in one ampoule and
10% - 10 ml solution
ACTION:
Adrenomimetic agent with vasoconstrictive effect. It has an
excitatory action mainly on alpha - receptors which is the reason
for its analeptic effect. It is characterized by moderate pressor
activity, with a moderate duration of action. The phasic character
of its action is not well manifested, as in the case of epinephrine
but it has a longer effect. The drug stimulates the cardiac
function. It is with a low toxicity and is well tolerated.
INDICATIONS:
Peripheral vascular failure - collapse and various hypotonic states,
e.g. infectious diseases (flu, pneumonia, etc.), and during the
convalescense period after them; prior to and after surgical
operations; bronchial asthma; in obstetric practice.
The drug is usually administered in the lighter cases of the
conditions described.
CONTRAINDICATIONS:
Hypertonic disease, manifested atherosclerosis, liability to
vascular spasms, grave organic cardiac diseases, hyperthyroidism,
diabetes (except in the case of vital indications). |
SIDE EFFECTS:
Blood pressure can be elevated three times after overdosage and a
prolonged administration; palpitation, arrhythmia (rarely),
perspiration, dizziness, difficult urination, nervous excitation,
insomnia.
DRUG INTERACTIONS:
Severe hypertensive reactions and arrhythmias are likely to occur
after simultaneous administration with other sympathomimetic agents
and antidepressants.
DOSAGE AND ADMINISTRATION:
Adults are given orally 15-30 drops, 30 min before meals.
Children: from 3 months to 1 year - 5-10 drops; from 1 to 4 years -
10-15 drops; from 4 to 10 years - 15-20 drops; doses can be given
2-3 times daily.
It is injected in acute cases: subcutaneously, intramuscularly or
intravenously (slowly!). The injections can be repeated every 1-2 h
until normal blood pressure values are attained. As long-lasting
intravenous drip infusion - 5 to 10 ampoules = 0.3-0.6 Vasoton per
liter infusion fluid for 4 to 8 h.
MEDICINAL FORM AND PACKAGE:
Packages with 10 and 50 ampoules of 60 mg/1 ml (6 %).
Solution - 10 % in vials of 10 ml.
STORAGE:
At moderate temperature (15-30° C).
EXPIRY:
2 (two) years.
