- COMPOSITION:
Methylergometrine maleate 0.2 mg/1 ml - injection solution
ACTION:
Methylergometrine possesses the most manifest specific uterotonic
action among all preparations from natural and semisynthetic
alkaloids of ergot, known until now. It is well tolerated also at
higher dosage and does not exercise any influence on circulation. It
provokes rapid and potent contractions of the uterine muscles,
stopping uterine hemorrhage.
PHARMACOKINETICS:
When introduced intravenously, its effects occur 30-60 s after
application, and 2-3 min after intramuscular application. The action
lasts 4-8 h. the preparation is excreted in small quantities with
milk, after intravenous application its biological half-life is 32
min.
INDICATIONS:
For active drug treatment during the puerperal period, puerperal
hemorrhages as a result of insufficient contractility ability of the
uterus (hemorrhages caused by the removal of the placenta, after
application of Crede, manual removal of the placenta, uterine atonia
after the release of the placenta). In Cesarean section the
preparation is introduced intramurally into fundus uteri. During the
puerperal period (lochiometra, insufficient involution, late
hemorrhages); hemorrhages during abortions; prolonged and abundant
menstruation. |
CONTRAINDICATIONS:
Pregnancy, delivery, during the opening period and the period of
fetus expulsion; stenocardia.
SIDE EFFECTS:
Brief nausea, vomiting, abdominal pains and dizziness are possible
at high doses. The preparation inhibits lactation. It may provoke
bronchospasm in stenocardic patients.
DOSAGE AND ADMINISTRATION:
For active conduction of the puerperal period - 1 ampoule
intravenously, immediately after the appearance of the fetus head.
In case of puerperal hemorrhages - 1 ampoule every 2-4 h,
intramuscularly or intravenously, for hemorrhages after abortion -
1/2 - 1 ampoule intramuscularly or intravenously.
MEDICINAL FORM AND PACKAGE:
Ampoules of 0.2 mg/1 ml in packs of 10 and 100.
STORAGE:
At moderate temperature (15-30° C) in a place protected from light.
EXPIRY:
18 (eighteen) months.
